Current Thoughts From the Editor
Harry Truman
What happened to Harry Truman after the presidency--very interesting!
Harry Truman, from Missouri, was a different kind of President. He probably made as many important decisions
regarding our nation's history as any of the other 42 presidents. However, a measure of his greatness may
rest on what he did after he left the White House.
Historians have written that the only asset he had when he died was the house he lived in, which was in
Independence, Missouri. On top of that, his wife inherited the house from her Mother.
When he retired from office in 1952, his income was a U.S. Army pension reported to have been $13,507.72 a
year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and personally licking them, granted him an
'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of $25,000 per year.
After President Eisenhower was inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to Missouri by themselves. There were
no Secret Service agents following them. When offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined,
stating, 'You don't want me. You want the office of the President, and that doesn't belong to me, it belongs
to the American people and it's not for sale.'
Even later, on May 6, 1971, when Congress was preparing to award him the Medal of Honor on his 87th
birthday, he refused to accept it, writing, 'I don't consider that I have done anything which should be the
reason for any award, Congressional or otherwise.'
He never owned his own home and as president he paid for all of his own travel expenses and food. Modern
politicians have found a new level of success in cashing in on the Presidency, resulting in untold wealth.
Today, many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the fruits of their
offices. Political offices are now for sale.
Good old Harry Truman was correct when he observed, 'My choices early in life were either to be a piano
player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference.'
How to take back our country!
Payback is fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WRITE IT ON THE BACK OF YOUR ENVELOPES.
WE THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. WE'LL START WRITING IT ON THEFRONT OF OUR ENVELOPES, TOO!
Including Your Bills.
You may have heard in the news that a couple of Post Offices in Texas have been forced to take down small
posters that say 'IN GOD WE TRUST,' the law, they say, is being violated.
Anyway, we heard proposed on a radio station show, that we should all write 'IN GOD WE TRUST' on the back
of all our mail.
After all, that's our National Motto, and ----- all the money we use to buy stamps. We think it's a
wonderful idea.
We must take back our nation from all the people who think that anything that offends them should be
removed.

Made in the USA
A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while one grasshoper on the railroad tracks
wouldn't slow a train very much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the following,
obviously written by a good American.
Good idea . . . one light bulb at a time . . . .
I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose
attachments. They were all made in China. The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it
I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA. Start looking.
In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job.
So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!
My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy
it any more. My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico now. I have switched to Crest. You have to
read the labels on everything.
This past weekend I was at Kroger. (Can be true for any store). I needed 60W light bulbs and Bounce dryer
sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off brand
labeled, "Everyday Value. " I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they were the same
except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that
surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value brand was made in -
get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland , Ohio.
So throw out the myth that you
cannot find products you use every day that are made right here.
So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets . . . yep, you guessed it, Bounce cost more money and is made
in Canada. The Everyday Value brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the
dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been using for years and at almost half the
price!
My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for everyday things and see what you can
find that is made in the USA - the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!
If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at
a time! Stop buying from overseas companies!
(We should have awakened a decade ago . . . . . . )
Let's get with the program . . . .
help our fellow Americans keep their jobs and create more jobs here in the U.S.A.
